Why Eroticism?

Why Eroticism?

In truth, there is no absolute need for eroticism. Despite glorifying ourselves as the only animal species with erotic consciousness (which isn't entirely true, but we'll get there), the usefulness of eroticism isn't fundamental to our survival. This isn't because, according to the laws of human biology, an erection can be merely the result of genital oxygenation or an involuntary physical response, and pregnancy a mere consequence of impulsive penetration and uncontrolled ejaculation or pre-ejaculation (or even harmless laboratory insemination). In other words, life on Earth and our survival don't depend at all on eroticism, only on sexuality.

So what is the purpose of eroticism?

However, in any case, our survival does not depend on happiness, pleasure, rationality, community life, the creation of affective bonds, creative capacity, imagination, curiosity, the search for new solutions, the experience of new things, fantasy, empathy, benevolence, or emotional connection with the world around us.

Humans can very well exist without all of this. But we could never evolve. The need for sex for procreation is as basic as the need for water for hydration and food for nourishment. Without any psychological, social, or even spiritual context, these are the three basic needs of any animal, whether human or not. But, even though life on Earth has been primarily based on the satisfaction of these three basic needs for a long time, something disruptive has given way to a wider palette of wants, desires, and discoveries, in the growing expansion of human life on the planet.

The Importance of Unimportant Things

Beauty, pleasure, and even (some say) the meaning of life were not created by humans; rather, they are constantly created by the "chaos" of Nature. The usefulness of beauty and pleasure for the development of the world predates their verbal definitions. The interaction between the animal and plant worlds, for example, comes from this notion of attraction to colors, shapes, smells, tastes, and sounds. Even among animals, mating dances, the exuberant display of fur, feathers, horns, beaks, paws, the movements and resistance of bodies, persistence, resilience, struggle, bravery, cunning, instinct — all of this was carefully crafted by nature so that survival would not be merely a matter of chance, a simple sexual encounter triggered by mating season and the passing of the seasons.

Even an act as basic as sexual intercourse evolved with species and became complex even before becoming human.

But with human intellect came complexity, philosophy, morality, and abstraction, with all that is constructive and destructive in that. Eroticism took flight in fantasies, desires, dreams, and ideals, manifesting itself through the most varied forms, notably in the human expression that we have chosen to call Art. This became the most intimate and transformative form of expression of emotions and the world around us, opening paths to imagination, creativity, and ways for people to feel connected, resisting the cruelest and most painful blows of reality.

In Eroticism, the escape from oppression and the fascination with transgression, especially within moral canons, transformed into an act of rebellion, self-knowledge, "fetishism", and self-determination, which always caused strangeness and at the same time defined individual characteristics, relational dynamics, social structures, and profound cultural developments in the most diverse societies throughout history.

For these reasons, Eroticism is more than a mere social construct and is far from being a merely rational or human expression. Eroticism is the supreme supplement to the existence of life in natural biodiversity. Eroticism is the utopia of possibilities, where everything is possible and infinite, and where we can believe in the most sublime benefits of pleasure, in this incessant search for another, even more complex chimera, called "bliss".

Sex and Erotic Culture

It was for all these reasons that I decided to dedicate my life and work to helping people understand the importance of acquiring what I call "Erotic Culture". This means knowing the diverse ways in which eroticism can be everywhere, at all times, in the most varied forms, and not just limited to sex and sexuality. Beauty, sensuality, seduction, fantasies, and all kinds of human expression can contain messages, awaken desires, and create attraction in the most diverse ways, so that sex does not depend only on the moments when bodies come together, but rather that the connection and expansion of pleasure perpetuates itself throughout every moment of each day, in an evident or subliminal way. 🔥
